Installing and running Nolvra INTONE

Install INTONE with Nolvra Hub, find it in Live's browser, clear "No license yet", open older TUNE sets, and remove it again.

What you need

Nolvra INTONE is a vocal pitch editor that runs inside Ableton Live as a Max for Live audio effect. INTONE needs Ableton Live 12 Suite with Max 9 or later, on macOS 14 or later or on 64-bit Windows. Nolvra Hub installs it, and signing in to Nolvra Hub is what unlocks it: INTONE has no license key and no activation field.

Installing INTONE

Install from the Hub

Sign in to Nolvra Hub and install INTONE from the product list. The Hub downloads the INTONE package, checks every file in it, and keeps it updated afterwards. There is no separate download link.

Close Live if the Hub asks you to

The Hub does not swap INTONE's files while Ableton Live is running, the first install included. If Live is open, the Hub says "Close Ableton Live to finish installing INTONE." and finishes the install by itself as soon as Live quits.

Find INTONE in Live's browser

Open Live and go to User Library, then Presets, Audio Effects, Max Audio Effect. INTONE is there. Drag it onto the audio track that holds your vocal.

Where the Hub puts INTONE

  • Max package on a Mac/Users/Shared/Max 9/Packages/Nolvra INTONE
  • Max package on WindowsDocuments\Max 9\Packages\Nolvra INTONE
  • Device in Live's browserUser Library > Presets > Audio Effects > Max Audio Effect > INTONE

Why the device sits in the User Library

Live does not list the contents of Max packages in its browser, so the Hub also places a copy of the INTONE device in your User Library, in the Max Audio Effect folder. That copy loads its engine from the package, so updating the package updates every Set that uses INTONE. The Hub finds your User Library from Live's own settings. If you keep a file of your own called INTONE.amxd in that folder, the Hub never overwrites or deletes it.

Unlocking INTONE

INTONE unlocks from your signed-in Nolvra Hub session. All-Access includes it, and if you bought INTONE on its own the same sign-in unlocks it. Nothing is typed into the device. The 7-day trial covers INTONE, with no card.

Without a license, editing still works. The device shows a card that reads "No license yet. Sign in to Nolvra Hub." and, under it, "Editing works; preview, COMMIT and TO MIDI need a license." Click beside the card to put it away and keep editing; COMMIT and TO MIDI stay locked until the license arrives.

Update Nolvra Hub

Early Hub versions installed INTONE but could not hand it the license. The fix is Nolvra Hub 1.0.58 on macOS and 0.13.17 on Windows. Open the Hub: it updates itself, or download the current version from nolvra.com/hub.

Sign in and wait half a minute

INTONE checks for the Hub session again every 30 seconds while it is locked, so you do not need to restart Live or reload the Set. Once the Hub is updated and signed in, the card goes away by itself.

If it still shows the card

Turn the INTONE device off and on again with its activator in Live. If the Hub has told you your license was renewed late, this is also what it asks for: INTONE works again within 2 minutes, or straight away after turning the device off and on.

Messages you may see

  • No license yet. Sign in to Nolvra Hub.
  • This license belongs to another computer.
  • License needs a refresh. Open Nolvra Hub once while online.
  • The computer clock was set back. Open Nolvra Hub once while online.
  • Your account has no INTONE.
  • INTONE must be on an audio track (not a group, return, main or MIDI track).
  • INTONE is not installed on this computer (Max package 'Nolvra INTONE' missing). Open Nolvra Hub to install or repair INTONE. Your clips and edits are kept.

INTONE is not installed on this computer

This note appears when a Set uses INTONE and the package is missing, for example on a second computer or after the package was removed. Live keeps running and your clips still play. Open Nolvra Hub on that computer and install INTONE; the device opens again with your edits.

Sets made with the earlier TUNE device

Before its release INTONE was called TUNE, and a few Sets were made with the TUNE device. Such a Set calls the device from User Library > Presets > Audio Effects > Max Audio Effect > TUNE. As long as that TUNE.amxd file stays where it is, the Set opens with the INTONE engine, your edits come back and COMMIT works. Do not delete it.

A Set saved with the old TUNE package shows that TUNE.amxd was not found. Your audio and your Commit files are intact. On a Mac the Hub gives the repair: open the Set, in Live's browser go to User Library > Presets > Audio Effects > Max Audio Effect and drag INTONE onto the old device's track, and your edits come back. Then delete the old device and save the Set.

Keep the folders Documents/Nolvra TUNE and Samples/Processed/TUNE inside your projects as well. INTONE reads older edits from them.

Moving a project to another computer

File > Collect All and Save copies the INTONE device file into the project, under Presets/Audio Effects/Max Audio Effect/Imported. It does not copy the engine, which stays in the Max package. On the other computer, install INTONE with Nolvra Hub and the Set opens with its edits.

Removing INTONE

Close Live, then uninstall in the Hub

Uninstall INTONE from Nolvra Hub. The Hub refuses while Live is open, because Max keeps the package in use. It removes the package and its copy of the device from your User Library.

What stays

The Hub never deletes your work. The folder Documents/Nolvra INTONE and the Samples/Processed/INTONE folder inside each project hold your Commit audio and your edits, and your Sets play from them. Keep both.

What to send us

If none of this works, write to support@nolvra.com with your operating system and its version, your Live version, your Nolvra Hub version, and a screenshot of the INTONE device. Do not send your password.
